Gender Equality

Some people call it role displacement responsible for the demoralization and imbalance in today’s society, but it is far from that, their argument favour male domination even when it is clear that the male folks far exceed their boundaries. Equality as a theory or concept will be workably realized if only education is given utmost priority.

Talking Gender + Equality in Africa, and presumably the world, we may say that we are still clinging to the bosom of our stone-age way of life, our traditional induction and the now religious doctrine of male supremacy.

Rights are violated if their owners do not know they own them. If this theory is to work, and well too, emphasis must be placed on women’s rights for childhood and by law in ensuring:

· equal educational opportunities as their male counterparts.
· That sex and gender right be entrenched in school curriculum at the secondary and tertiary level, respectively and
· Semi-formal and formal education be given to members of the public on rights and constitutional issues.

The school alone cannot take charge of all these but with the help of the media, ministries of education, corporate bodies, religious institution, governmental and non-governmental organizations and the entire members of the public. Ensuring development requires participation as development cannot exist without it. Participation cannot take place without communication. Information is power, support it. The time for change is now. Take charge.

Thank you.
